History of Dowling
|
Founded in 1955 as part of Adelphi College's outreach to Suffolk county, the College purchased the former W.K. Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale in 1962. In 1968 the College severed its ties with Adelphi and was renamed after its chief benefactor, Robert Dowling, a noted city planner and aviator.

The Rudolph Campus is located just 50 miles east of Manhattan and just minutes fromthe ocean beaches on Long Island, New York. Brookhaven Campus is located 18 miles east on the William Floyd Parkway in Shirley. Free shuttle bus service between campuses. Selected courses areoffered at the Melville Center.

School of Aviation |
State-of-the-art flight simulators and aircraft including 9 Piper Warriors, an Arrow and a twin engine Seminole. All planes are equipped with the latest instrumentation and avionics including IFR certified Garmin Global Position Systems with moving map capability. New NASA funded airport management simulation lab. Graduates of the program may obtain all pilot certificates and ratings. One of only 23 institutions in the AT-CTI program for prospective Air Traffic Controllers.
