The Doctorate in Educational Administration
The Schedule
The Ed.D. Degree is a 66-credit program with coursework taught over
two years (six semesters) and dissertation completion in the third year
(three semesters). Courses occur in four terms per year: in the fall, spring,
June, and July. The members of the cohort remain together for the duration
of the program.
Each course is taught by a professor who is an experienced practitioner
and who will provide the cohort members with a balance of sound theory
and practical application.
Discussion of research topics begins immediately with dissertation topics identified by the end of the first
12 courses. In support of a fast start on the dissertation, each candidate is assigned to a doctoral committee and
a chairperson who acts as adviser/mentor in the fifth semester.
Approximately twelve to fifteen candidates are admitted as a cohort annually after careful screening of
application documents and a personal interview with the selection committee. This cohort remains together for
the duration of the program. A collegial study environment allows ample opportunity for professional sharing
and cooperative activity. Campus seminars, study teams and computer conferencing among the members and
with the instructors further this goal. There are two sequential course patterns which students may choose from
to follow in the Ed.D. Program: The Executive Concentrated Cohort or The Weekend Cohort.
