Cooperative Education & Internships

To Earn Credit...

  • Students must work a minimum of 12-15 hours per week over an approximate 12-week period for a paid Co-op position and a minimum of 8-10 hours per week for a non-paid position.

  • Students must prepare four (4) Learning Objectives to be signed and approved by the cooperating employer/supervisor, their Dowling College Faculty Advisor, the student and the Career Services Cooperative Education Coordinator.

  • Students must complete an academic component, (detailed by the Dowling College Faculty Advisor) of a minimum 10 page paper, and on occasion, one or more of the following: a journal, presentation, work related project or other integrative task.

  • Students must conduct an Information Interview with someone actively working in their field of study; complete an Organizational Dynamics Packet, (provided by the Career Services Office); complete an Exit Interview (or summative review of their accomplishments and experiences in the Cooperative Education placement); a Company Biography; and a self-evaluation.

  • In addition to the above-mentioned requirements, students must be reviewed by their cooperating employer/supervisor prior to the end of the semester in order to receive a letter grade for their participation. (The Career Services office supplies a standardized form for this requirement).
