Summer Internship

Huntington Summer Arts Festival

Job Description: The intern manages public relations, marketing duties and other tasks as assigned for the Huntington Summer Arts Festival. He/She reports to the Program Director.

Responsibilities include:

Writing, distributing and following up on weekly press releases.
Serving as contact for media outlets, updating and maintaining media database.
Contacting artists and/or agents for press information, performance photos, audio and video.
Creating and modifying flyers and posters for specifically targeted groups.
Coordinating volunteers in the distribution of flyers and posters.
Creating performance programs as needed.
Clipping festival and artist related previews, reviews and articles from magazines and newspapers.
Helping to coordinate and monitor merchandise sales.
Assisting with afternoon community outreach programs.
Assisting Program Director with projects.
Assisting staff with day-to-day activities and mailings.

Requirements: Good writing & communication skills as well as public relations experience; ability to work in a well-organized manner on multiple projects with deadlines; computer and web literate; valid driver’s license and availability of car; knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, MySpace and Facebook a plus.

The position is full time Monday to Friday and runs approximately from late May through mid-August. Hours are generally 9-5 but may include some evening hours as needed during larger performances. Housing is not provided.

About the Huntington Summer Arts Festival: This outdoor festival runs six nights a week for eight weeks, presenting a mix of music, dance and theater performances by Long Island artists as well as national and international acts, free to the public. Huntington is located on the north shore of Long Island about 50 miles from New York City.
