Dowling Professor Authors Chapter of Freshwater Crayfish: A Global Overview

lydiaandalilitaDr. Christopher Boyko of the Department of Biology at Dowling College has authored the chapter Crayfishes of Africa for the new book from CRC Press, Freshwater Crayfish: A Global Overview (edited by Tadashi Kawai, Zen Faulkes and Gerhard Scholtz). This book provides an up-to-date reference work on these commercially important crustaceans and reviews the taxonomy, conservation status, distribution and biology of all species of crayfishes worldwide, including endangered and threatened species. Many chapters, including Dr. Boyko’s, discuss the potential research benefits of the recently discovered model organism, the marmorkrebs – a parthenogenetic freshwater crayfish, as well as the environmental threats these crayfish pose when introduced into non-native habitats.
